Using Bathing Water Status to clean up our rivers
Why Bathing Water Status in Shropshire
Why?
We have some of the most beautiful, but also the most polluted, waters here in Shropshire.
Bathing Water Status will compel the Environment Agency to test the water regularly, investigate pollution and polluters to make them start to clean up the river.
Bathing Water Status also comes with the information needed for bathers, paddlers and swimmers to know when and if it is safe to swim in our rivers.
Where?
In Shrewsbury we are applying for Bathing Water Status in the River Severn at Frankwell.
This is where many people access the river for various water sports, including swimming. It is a great spot for easy access and away from much of the river traffic.
In Ironbridge we are applying for Bathing Water Status in the River Severn at the beach by the Museum of the Gorge.
This is a good access spot as it not only has great facilities, but is also fairly sheltered.
In Ludlow we are applying for a stretch of river from the pontoon in The Linney Playing Fields down to Dinham Weir.
This incorporates the most popular access points for water sports, but also the best paddling spot for children.
